Salt Spray Tester, also known as a Salt Spray Chamber or Fog Apparatus, is a crucial tool for assessing the anti-corrosion quality of materials surfaces after various protective treatments. Coatings, such as those from painting, coating, electroplating, anodizing, or greasing, undergo the salt spray test to determine their corrosion resistance.
This standardized method exposes coated samples to a corrosive environment, allowing for accelerated corrosion testing and predicting the protective finish's suitability. The Salt Spray Tester is cost-effective, quickly executed, and provides reasonably repeatable results. However, there is a weak correlation between test duration and coating life, particularly in hot-dip galvanized steel.
The testing apparatus involves a closed chamber where a 5% sodium chloride solution is atomized to create a dense saline fog, subjecting exposed parts to severe corrosive conditions. Different solutions, such as acetic acid and acetic acid with copper chloride, are used for specific coatings. Qualitest offers a range of Salt Spray Cabinets, from 108L capacity to customized solutions, capable of conducting NSS, CASS, or ASS tests. It's important to note recommendations against the interchangeability of test cabinets for certain solutions due to cleaning challenges.
Precision salt spray test chambers are widely used in aerospace, electronics, electrical appliances, communications, medical pharmaceuticals, colleges and universities, scientific research units and other industries to conduct environmental machine reliability tests on product appearance, temperature and humidity resistance, etc.
